Shiv Khera on “Winner’s Edge”

Ø We have to translate weakness into success.

Ø Nobody achieved anything in ideal condition

Ø Everybody who achieved anything did so in adverse condition

Ø Best idea will not work if you don’t work on the idea

Ø Positive thinking with effort increases the probability of success

Ø Negative thinking with effort reduces the probability of success

Ø Winners put in extra effort even when it hurts

Ø We should be able to give more than what we are paid for

Ø If we are able to give more than what we take - to the family, to the customer, to the organization and to the country, there is no competition

Ø Then we become the competition, and we don’t have competition.

Ø Winners empower and losers control

Ø Empowerment means delegating and assuming authority

Ø Don’t delegate authority without training

Ø Delegating without training is equal to giving a loaded gun to a monkey

Ø When you delegate authority to somebody, over-supervise for 90 days

Ø If everything is ok, you can relax. Otherwise you can take back the authority so as to minimize loss

Ø People try to protect their position and take control by keeping the data/information and then they become indispensable

Ø One must be valuable but dispensable

Ø Winners say “let us find out” but losers say “Don’t know”

Ø Winners welcome success, losers resent success

Ø Workers who only work for their pay cheques, do not have the feeling of belongingness

Ø We should have workers who belong to the organization

Ø Winners accept responsibility if something goes wrong. Losers do not own up the mistake by blame others.

Ø One has to pay the price for winning

Ø Winners make the days count losers count the days.
